Law Day

3 pm | Harris Hall in the Lane County Public Service Building

May 1st is Law Day in Oregon, and the Oregon Judicial Department is partnering with the Civic Learning Project this year.  Former Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Martha Walters will administer oath renewals to the Lane County Circuit Court Judges at a ceremony at 3:00 pm, Harris Hall in the Lane County Public Service Building, 125 E 8th Ave, Eugene, Oregon. Lawyers and members of the Lane County Bar Association are invited to renew their oaths as well, administered by Presiding Judge Karrie McIntyre, and join the judges as they publicly reaffirm their commitment to our constitution and the rule of law.

Law Day is an annual, national celebration of our democracy and the Court’s role during times of change.   The program will feature remarks by Chief Justice Walters on the principles of Law Day, created in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, to remind us that a free society requires civic engagement and an understanding of legal rights.
